Pilates is a non-aerobic, low impact activity aimed at creating length in muscles and stability of the core which helps with posture and balance.
It differs from Yoga in that Pilates involves long flowing movements rather than the more static poses of Yoga. The breathing also differs between the two forms of exercise, Pilates using the breath to encourage stability during the exercises.
Flex Pilates offers one to one sessions which are bookable in advance. The session lasts an hour and in that time the teacher will assess your posture, discuss your goals and also identify any existing pathology or condition which may require specific exercises. You will also be given a home exercise programme to follow to complement any work done within the session.
The answer to this question depends on what kind of results you want. If you are looking to reduce low back pain, this can be achieved in 1 session, you can also relieve stress at the end of 1 session. If, however, you want to improve performance during a run, prevent injury or get back into pre-baby shape, you will need to commit to Pilates 2-3 times a week. This can be achieved by attending class and also doing some exercises at home.
